Burlap Embellished Pillows
These make for great additions for patio furniture!
- Using fabric scissors, cut out two pieces of burlap for each pillow. Make sure to leave enough room for stitching.
- Decorate the outer sides with paint and the design/stencil of your choosing. You can tape the burlap down for a sturdier base to decorate.
- Sew your pillow. Begin at the bottom and about an inch away from the edge of the fabric.
- Cut off all of the dangling thread left on from sewing so it looks nice and neat.
- Stuff the pillow form into the case making sure it fills in the corners and that it is inserted correctly.
- Hand-stitch your pillowcase shut!
Burlap Wrapped Jars
A perfect choice for table centerpieces, especially for bridal and baby showers or other special events.
- Cut out a 14” X 4” strip of burlap that can completely cover the jar, except where it starts to curve at the bottom and top.
- Wrap the strip around the mason jar allowing it to overlap neatly at the back. Use glue to secure the two ends together.
- Cut a roughly 32” length of jute twine and use it to secure the burlap in place making a bow in front.
- Trim the excess tag ends.
- Finish your jar with a beautiful bouquet of flowers!
Burlap Bunting
Liven up a celebration with a personalized banner!
- Cut out triangles in your desired size and quantity based on your unique needs.
- Paint words or phrases on the triangles using a stencil or freehand. You can also iron tissue paper onto the back of the burlap to make it stiffer and easier to cut.
- Attach to twine or string. Glue twine to the back of the burlap, about half an inch from the top, and then fold down the top edge. Attach the bunting sections in reverse order, since they’ll be upside down. You can also use hot glue to attach letters to the burlap.
Burlap Table Runners
A quick way to jazz up a table for any occasion.
- Determine what length and width you want the runner to be, depending on the size of your table.
- Cut the length and width of the fabric using a straightedge and a rotary cutter, scissors work too. Be sure to create a hemmed edge on the long sides of the fabric first. Simply fold over the fabric to create a hem approximately 1.5 to 2 inches wide.
- With a tea towel on top, iron down the crease. Use fusible tape to the length of the side. Tuck the fusible tape inside the hem. Repeat for the opposite side of the runner.
- Add the decorative touches to the end of the runner.
Burlap Covered Lamps
A bright idea for a plain lamp.
- Measure the burlap and cut it to size. You can use pinking shears to prevent the burlap from unraveling.
- Wrap the burlap around the lamp shade. You can also use a layer of fabric underneath the burlap.
- Use adhesive to secure the burlap in place. You can use upholstery adhesive, hot glue, or spray adhesive.
- Fold any excess fabric and mark the fold line with a fabric pen. Then, cut the excess fabric and fold and tuck the edges into place. You can also glue the fabric edges into place.
- You can finish the look with bias tape in a matching color.
